National Pray for Marriage Day: Sunday, February 26, 2012

The outrageous ruling of two federal judges threatens to redefine marriage in California – and ultimately in every state across the nation. This ruling is not only an attack on marriage, but completely disregards the will of seven million Californians who voted to uphold marriage as the union between one man and one woman in their state Constitution.

No court should undercut the democratic process by taking the power to preserve marriage out of the hands of the people. But we are not surprised that this attack on marriage – tried in San Francisco – turned out this way.

Pew study: 2 million dead Americans on active voter rolls

(Christian Post) Nearly 2 million dead Americans are still on active voter registries, and 1 in every 8 registrations in the United States is invalid or has major inaccuracies, according to a new study.

Research released Tuesday by the Pew Center on the States shows that the country is spending more on voter registration while getting worse results than other nations such as Canada. The study points to antiquated systems that don’t reflect modern technology and fail to address the biggest obstacles to maintaining accurate, up-to-date voter-registry databases.

PTC issues warning re: MTV`s `Pants`

(OneNewsNow) A conservative media watchdog group is going after MTV for airing a television program with inappropriate content that targets children as young as 12.

Parents Television Council accuses the cable channel of taking HBO-style content and marketing it to a Nickelodeon-age audience. Dan Isett is director of public policy for the PTC.

"MTV has a new show called `I Just Want My Pants Back` -- and as you might imagine it`s a show that`s absolutely replete with both sexual content and sexual dialogue," he says. "And it`s one that`s been mis-appropriately rated as appropriate for a 14-year-old child -- and MTV is on the record as having targeted a demographic beginning with children as young as 12."

Lunchbox lunacy: Gov`t swaps out child`s meal

(OneNewsNow) Conservative Christian groups are outraged that a school decided a lunch a preschooler`s mother prepared was not healthy enough and replaced it with chicken nuggets.

The elementary school in Raeford, North Carolina, decided the four-year-old`s lunch -- which consisted of a turkey-and-cheese sandwich, banana, potato chips, and apple juice -- did not meet nutritional standards established by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Why? Because it did not contain a vegetable.

Christian Students` Latest Mission Field: Public Schools

(Christian Post) One Christian organization is looking to reach what it believes to be a closed country – the public school.

With religion being pushed out of schools for nearly five decades now, only a minority of teenagers today are said to be Bible-believing Christians. Hoping to change those statistics, however, The Life Book Movement began, targeting Bible-illiterate high school students in the largely hard-to-reach public institutions.

From aborting her own baby to starting a network of pro-life medical clinics: Kathleen Eaton’s story

(LifeSiteNews) The young woman staggered out the back door of the abortion clinic. She barely managed to make her way to her car before she collapsed on the curb, sobbing uncontrollably.

The year was 1980. Kathleen, in her early 20’s, had recently separated from her husband and had just aborted another man’s baby. In her time of crisis, Kathleen had turned for help to the only organizations she knew, Planned Parenthood and Family Planning Associates. The first gave her a pregnancy test, the other aborted her baby. As Kathleen doubled up from pain on the curb side, rocking her tear-streaked face in her hands, she vowed to God that if he showed her just one woman who faced a choice like hers, she would do all she could to guide that woman down a different path.

The site is within the former territory of the nearly 3,000-year-old Sheba kingdom, which scholars believe spanned from Ethiopia to Yemen.

(OneNewsNow) A Concerned Women for America spokeswoman finds it "tremendously alarming" that some girls as young as nine years old in United Kingdom schools are receiving birth control without their parents knowing anything about it.

According to the National Health Service, 7,400 British girls between 13 and 15 were given implants or hormonal injections last year alone. The government defends the program, which dates back to 2009, claiming that it has managed to reduce teen pregnancies by 22 percent. Officials assure the public that only "properly trained personnel" take the girls` medical histories and approve the procedures.

Marriage -- society`s building block

(Christian Post) Just in time for Valentine`s Day, the Family Research Council has released a new report entitled "162 Reasons to Marry."

Dr. Patrick Fagan, director of FRC`s Marriage & Religious Research Institute, says in the paper that they have come up with 162 reasons for the benefits of matrimony between a man and a woman.

Prop. 8 Appeal: Will Supreme Court Decide Gay Marriage Once and for All?

(Christian Post) Legal scholars say the U.S. Supreme Court may have to decide whether federal court has the power to overturn a state protection of traditional marriage in the wake of the controversial ruling negating California`s Proposition 8.

But it is not clear whether this is the case that either protectors or challengers to traditional marriage want the high court to decide. American Center for Law and Justice attorney and legal scholar David French says he is somewhat perplexed by last Tuesday`s ruling by the 9th Circuit Appeals Court and questions how the Supreme Court would handle the case.

Conceived in incestuous rape, but ‘not defined by my DNA’: Kristi Hofferber’s incredible story

This restlessness finally drove her to seek out the facts about her birth parents shortly before she turned 30.

Urge Congress to support conscience rights in response to the Obama Contraceptive Mandate

(Family Research Council) Congress needs to hear your voice on a critical matter related to life and religious freedoms.

Because of a provision in Obamacare, the Obama Administration issued a "regulation" mandating that all private health insurance plans completely cover contraceptives and sterilization services (including those with abortifacient mechanisms of action). Organizations that provide insurance to their employees will be forced to cover such services, even if they have moral or religious objections.

The good news is that Rep. Jeff Fortenberry (R-NE) and Senator Roy Blunt (R-MO) have introduced the "Respect for Rights of Conscience Act" to provide conscience protections for any services to which individuals or groups have moral or religious objections. With the news coverage at a peak, it is imperative to contact your U.S. House Representative to support the Fortenberry bill (H.R. 1179) and to contact your U.S. Senators to urge support for the Blunt bill (S. 1467) to provide conscience protections for health plans, health providers and individuals to prevent government discrimination such as the contraception mandate.

Urge Congress to support conscience rights in response to the Obama Contraceptive Mandate.

NYC Megachurches Mostly Silent on Church Ban Issue

(Christian Post) Some 60 churches may be left homeless as a ban that prohibits worship services at New York City public schools takes effect on Sunday. While churchgoers continue to fight the ban, some are also crying foul over the lack of support from megachurches.

New York`s megachurches have been mostly silent on the issue since the Supreme Court refused to hear the case of a Bronx congregation that tried to secure access to a public school auditorium for Sunday services. Some New York City church leaders wonder why the large churches have not done anything to help.

Did Komen Really Reinstate Planned Parenthood Grants?

(Christian Post) Susan G. Komen for the Cure foundation`s announcement reinstating Planned Parenthood grants may leave an opening for the breast cancer foundation to reject the nation`s leading abortion provider in the future, a Komen board member and pro-life activist said.

The statement released last week assured readers, "We will continue to fund existing grants, including those of Planned Parenthood, and preserve their eligibility to apply for future grants."

However, Komen Board Member John Raffaelli later told Washington Post Columnist Greg Sargent the Komen foundation still plans to base future grant decisions on organizations` ability to provide mammograms.
